Dead link on the "admin" page & some other stuff...

Postby MoreBloodWine » Sun May 25, 2008 9:13 pm

The Documentation tab / button when in the control panel area leads to a dead link...

When you click the button you goto this page...

http://www.wowroster.net/wiki

This is a first time install for me but this is the first "broke" thing that I've found. Still playing around with it and looking for other things that need fixin.

Edit: Just found this under the diag page it's a severity 6 error
wowdb.php 603 < 609 2007/02/01 07:37 > 2007/02/01 02:20 zanix != zeryl MD5 String does NOT match

1. Whats with the download update package thing. Does that mean we can web-update when new versions are released without having to dl the update / upgrade package then move it to our servers ?

2. Why do I need / should I DL the interface image pack, I did a comparison and all the images are already in the roster zip.

3. After uploading my .lua file I get alot of the following errors.
Quest [] could not be inserted 1062: Duplicate entry '39-' for key 1
Quest [] could not be inserted 1062: Duplicate entry '27-' for key 1

4. Is there a way to hide the SQL querie table, I dont really like having it there.

5. The (Instance Key) link doesnt seem to show anything for BC content like the heroic keys and stuff. Also, on the key page MC is listed but MC doesnt really have a key, you just need to be attuned for it.

What is that version 1.7.3 or 1.9.9.1758 ?

It's seems to me you're talking about a 1.7.3 version.

All the issues you talked about have patches being published.

It seems that I am using 1.7.3... I thought I did download the latest version. Hmm, well as a first time WoWRoster user / noob how would I upgrade from 1.7.3 to 1.9.9.1758 ?

Also, I named quite a few things and made a few edits to the original post so what will upgrading fix exactly ?

Edit: 1.7.3 seems to be all thats listed here, that I can find anyway...

Well, go the the forum http://www.wowroster.net/Forums.html
and have a look at the The Beta files section.

That's where all the nice things are happening the last 6 months ^^

This post will give you the link to the lastest and absolutly the greatest.

No upgrade path is possible, but why not installing both roster ? You can.

You'll see, it's worth trying : look overhere for a live version http://www.papy-team.fr/roster/

The papy site doesnt seem to have much except for some mods most of which I wouldnt need or use. If you could also take a look at this I'd appreciate it, Thx. Also I check out the other links for here that you posted and all I can seem to find is mentions of 2.0 stuff not 1.9.9.1758

As you said : I use the addons I need - you should choose yours
How can I take care of that ? [ ]

I did a "test" with 2.0 / 1.99 and frankly while to softwares good its stillbuggy hence it being beta and I say this with no disrespect but the new look / layout stinks. I like the old layout better. The new functionality is good but I just cant get past its new look , I like the plain old simple "buttoned" look like seen here with 1.7.3

http://www.politicalchaos.net/roster/index.php

For now I'll just live with 1.7.3 ... it functions great and looks the way I like it... perhaps things may be diff if I tried 1.99 first but who knows I just dont like the way it looks but love the new functionality. Only thing I wish is that the mods would be backwards compatible 2.0 mods should work with 1.7.3 assuming theyre all based off the same code.

Edit: The only addond I would really like to use is the QDKPViewer but its a 2.0 1.9.9 mod ;-/

Dead link on the "admin" page & some other stuff...

Postby zanix » Tue May 27, 2008 12:58 am

The "look" in 2.0 is templated so it it possible to change the look by editing the template files
If you are diligent, you can make a new theme to look like 1.7.3 (only menu.html would have to be edited, since that is the biggest change)

The addon framework in 2.0 is completely different than 1.7.3, hence the major version number change
The entire structure of 2.0 is different than 1.7.3 as well
Most of the variables and functions have changed names or no longer exist

I would say stick with 1.7.3 if you are comfortable, although Roster 2.0 is about to enter the Release Candidate phase
Be warned about 1.7.3, WoWRoster.net drops support for old versions of Roster

Well one signifigant thing I dont like about 2.0 as it stands is the text on the buttons overlaps the image, it's not aligned properly. That and with the understanding that 2.0 is beta I also found that alot of the settings dont save after saving if that makes sense, like I set the optio nto hide the SQL window but it would still show. Anyway the main thing is just the overall look if it that gets me.

What browser you use?
Can you attach an image?

The SQL window and debug are forced on for the duration of the beta
The RC version will be defaulted on, but you will be able to turn it off
The final release will be defaulted off

MoreBloodWine wrote:Anyway the main thing is just the overall look if it that gets me.

I knew that some people might not like the new look
What exactly do you not like?
Can you show me examples?
Maybe someone will make a new template file for 2.0 to mimic the 1.7.3 menu look

1. IE6 but it even does it in FF a lil... I know FF and IE displays things differently. But that doesnt seem to be the issue with this. It might just have something to do wih the text size setting of the brwser itself, that I havent checked yet. If it does turn out to be text size I suppose I'll have to suffer if I ever switch to 2.0 after release, anything smaller text wise and I'd go blind from squinting to much lol.

But heres a snap I took of it using IE6
Image

2. Well that explains that much, thought I was goin nuts for a minute

3. Its not that I really hate the look its just not to my liking, I prefer the look / layout of 1.7.3 with the uniformed "panes" where the buttons are etc. More images to load just means more bandwidth that gets chewed. Bandwidth usage aside from multiple image loads / page hits its mainly just the layout of it I'm not to fond of. If someone does make a " mod" to make 2.0 inherit the look of 1.7.3 then I'd be all for upgrading.
