The imposter... wowroster.com

When we registered wowroster.net and wowroster.org, we tried to get wowroster.com but it was owned by someone else and of all things it looked like it was a woodworking shop site or something...

Anyway, seems that they have noticed us as and now they are a 'search' site and are using a cut down version of the header logo in wowroster 1.7.3
(see the attachments for a comparison)

This infuriates me, someone making money off our good name (the pay per click ads) and I thought I'd just vent here

Please discuss...

Zanix,

It might be worth sending this info to the guys at blizzard. The cheat page Links, and the gold selling links will make it worth it. Especially as there is a major hack program linked on it. (as long as you specify that it has nothing to do with your .net and .org domains.)

I wonder is you can do a 'Passing Off' with ICANN and WIPO.

Unfortunately Copyright infringement for the graphics, I think, will not work.

well think typosquatting is illigal no matter how you bend...text and pictures so

I would find out how to make a complaint here....

i hope this can be solved for you guys also there are sites that will email you when a url is about to expire .. signup when you get the mail buy it with out them knowing the dns will change and its yours

I did sign up for that, theirs was set to expire June 17 (if I remember correctly)

They renewed 4 days before it expired

Course it doesn't. wowroster.net is the real site, it is linked back from all wowroster installs and multiple wow UI sites. That gives us a pretty neat pagerank.

The main issue with domain squatters like that is if people are looking for wowroster and just try out some likely URLs.
