The 1.8 is comming

Postby kalideda » Fri Jun 29, 2007 7:14 pm

to roster devs : Many thanks for your work :thumleft:

But why don't you people just open the svn to public eyes or if you prefer why no nightly svn builds ?

Just write a big statement : "We do *not* support the SVN builds" & just give it to everyone :)
ppl will begin to work on translations, find out bugs (yes some ppl can make a difference between bugs and not-yet-implemented features) and you'll be submerged by patchs that could speed up the dev process...

Then you can choose to ignore or include them!

Close source dev is so frustrating :)

The 1.8 is comming

Well, this decision dates from before I joined the dev team. From what I understood, people mixed the SVN and release file versions then complained it didn't work. We didn't have RosterDiag back then though, which makes diagnosing such issues easier.
I'll bring it up in the next dev meeting.

This is the exact reason why we closed the SVN (Back then it was CVS) 1 1/2 years ago
It became too much of a hassle with all of the support requests and them not telling us that they mixed SVN files with release.
So we decided it was best to close it until we had a better method for access.
Now that we have the SVNergy module that makes you approve yourself for access, Roster Diag, and a different CMS, I don't see a problem with opening up the SVN to read only access.

Of course, us devs will still need to discuss it...

This would be great.

On the other hand, 1.7.3 is pretty good already - maybe you guys could re-launch the SVN when 1.8 comes out and settles down.

yes, there will be an upgrade path available. If I'm not mistaken all versions from 1.6 and higher will be able to upgrade to 1.8

Updating to 1.8 will be in a separate package, with only limited support. Since 1.8 holds a lot of data earlier roster versions didn't hold, you probably want ppl to reupload anyway.

We are working on a lot of minor issues at the moment
Many are just coping mistakes, typos, and weird behavior

Some of the other specific issues are:
Guildless character uploads are not working as of yet
Gems are now being entered in the database, but are not used yet
Items are now being fully parsed and we need all the supported locales to make sure it works (deDE, frFR, esES)
Character equip bonuses are being re-coded and should work again, hopefully :D

Here are some images of the re-designed menu to hold you guys over

I think you made it worse. The images are AWSM but it is much harder to wait for the release now :) Man i think everyone will totally agree with me if i say this to be a masterpiece of image design for WoWRoster :)

Keep up the good work and as some people might say: "Holding us off with images?.. NEVER!" :)))

M8 this thing looks awsm can't wait until it starts shipping :)
