One of the ways I use Roster is to remember which alt I left an item on, or to find a guildie who has a mat I need. I've been using the guild bank for this, setting it to include all bags and banks. But it would be more useful to have a separate search feature that did the same thing, and also included the contents of mailboxes.

um... there is a search field in the roster you knowud just have to add the mailboxtable and field to the query...

Ok, then consider this a request to add the mailbox to the query. (I'll see if I can figure out the patch. Shouldn't be difficult.)
