Error while parsing CharacterProfiler after 0 seconds

Postby Phurion » Wed Jan 03, 2007 4:07 pm

New install of 1.7.2

Roster Diags show everything in working order.

I did a search for the error here on the forums and found a few others with similar problems, but no real resolution provided. Someone mentioned "permissions on the temp upload dir", but I see no reference to this dir in the install.txt file or anywhere else for that matter.

What should this directory be named and where should it be located? Once I have that I can set the permissions correctly. Or is this solution a lark as well?

Anyone else have this problem and successfully fixed it?

Thanks in advance.

[UPDATE]

A friend installed it on his Linux/Apache/PHP5/MySQL server without a hitch and it all worked like a charm. My server is Windows2003. Is anyone else successfully running this on a Windows based server?

You have a php setting for an upload_temp directory

You need to figure out what it is and since you are on a windows server (probably IIS correct?) you need to set the proper permissions on this directory

Ah HA! Exactly what we thought.

I've already submitted a request to my hosting provider to check that exact thing.

Thanks for the response.

Another question....

How difficult would it be to have the roster write it's temp files to a subdir of /roster, IE one that *I* have control over instead of relying on my servers PHP configuration?

Not too difficult I *think*
You need to use move_uploaded_file() to move the file to a local directory

Error while parsing CharacterProfiler after 0 seconds

I wish I had the skill/knowledge to do that, but I'm not a PHP coder. I'm from the MS school of development (ASP/ASP.NET/MSSQL). Yeh, I know...shoot me. =)

How much effort would it be to write CodenameR2 to use a user configured directory for its output instead of relying on PHP's global settings? In that same vein, how difficult would it be to patch 1.7.2 to use that same functionality?

Surely I'm not the only person trying to run this on a Windows server who can't control / modify global PHP settings or permissions on PHP's temp dir?

SuicideKings and a couple of Guildbank type web apps include this functionality and makes it very easy to install/configure them since I have total control over all subdirs from the root of my site.

Thanks again for any info. This app rocks and is definitely the best WoW roster I've ever seen, hands down. I just hope I can either get my provider to acknowledge/adjust permissions so I can run it, or to convince you to extend its functionality a bit. =)

Not being very familiar with PHP I didn't realize I could have my own PHP.ini file to override the servers defaults.

I set one up, modified the upload temp dir settings and pointed it to a folder I set with appropriate permissions, and the file will upload now.

However, getting some other oddities I can't explain. No mouseovers.

Digging around a bit.

No mouseovers was a known bug with versions of CP prior to 2.0.3. :)

Figured out the problem. I've modified the header/footer templates to integrate the roster into the theme of my guilds website and had accidentally removed a required call to "getalltooltips" or something.

Working well now. This thing ROCKS!

Error while parsing CharacterProfiler after 0 seconds

Postby jrkugelman » Thu Jan 11, 2007 5:08 pm

I am receiving the: "Error while parsing CharacterProfiler after 0 seconds" message. I have a new install of 1.7.2 and currently have full permissions to the roster/ directory from my hosting service. The roster install seemed to go without a hitch. The only error message I see in roster diagnostics is this:

"Notice: Undefined variable: updateTime in O:\Hosted Web Sites\Grayson.Hull\seaghyn_org\www\roster\lib\menu.php on line 127
Last updated: (PST)"

However, I think this is unrelated. Things I have done:

1) Loaded 2.0.4 Guildprofiler and Characterprofiler
2) Copied exactly the guild name and server from the CharacterProfiler.lua to the guild config portion of the admin.
3) Deleted the old chracterprofiler, generated a new one and uploaded from "c:\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\ROUANAGH\SavedVariables\CharacterProfiler.lua"

If the problem is in the php.ini or permissions to upload_temp my hosting service said they will not make changes. Is there a work around? Getting frustrated any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also having this issue. I know my PHP has access to upload files, I'm using Joomla and can upload stuff fine.

Any ideas on how to troubleshoot?

I just purchased a new host and I am having the same issue.

I talked with my service Provider and they said that they can upload to my temp directory.

How can I tell what exactly this error is? Is it a file error or a server error?

Please help me get started.

Thanks.
