Dragonfly Guild application form

Postby robojerk » Fri Nov 10, 2006 2:44 pm

I uploaded the module my guild uses for people to apply on. It's still needs some optimization and I'll be working on it in my free time to add the stuff I have in mind.

Here is the file.

Problem adding it to the registration is that the game is always changing and people wont change their profiles. I have looked into having it post to the forums automatically instead of emailing and will add that in after I add some data verification and spam prevention to the module.

I made standalone version.. Needs to be edited using a simple html editor to change the appearance to how you like it.

Edit line 35 in apply.php to have the apps sent to your email address.

I am curious as to how the application review process works.

When a new applicant petitions for guild membership and fills out an application accordingly, what happens next? My primary questions are:

1. What information is sent to the email address?
2. Can the recipient of the application accept/reject the applicant easily?
3. Does the application automatically add the user to the forums if they are "accepted" by the application reviewer?

I'm afraid i cannot "demo" it at this point as I do not have this entire system in place to add in the module.

I noticed someone mention a stand-alone version however I couldn't find the download for that, only the module add-on version.

If you can take the time to un-newb me on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks a lot and great work on everything here.

Dragonfly Guild application form

All the module does is create an email and send it to a specified email address.. It includes all of the information the applicant inputs + their IP address. Very simple at the moment.

Things I might do:
My plan is to eventually add input verification and spam prevention. Then maybe make it so it can create forum posts, or create separate areas for pending, approved, and denied and have people with admin level access on the website be able to move the applications around to each section and maybe auto add a user to a specific Group if it is approved.

Well it's definitely an idea I've been hoping developers would catch on to. Of course there are some services out there which you have to pay for that CAN do something SIMILAR to this idea. As you can see on our site, www.ironforceguild.com the Registration is a customized form for our forums. However it lets moderators review their submissions and approve/deny them. Emails are sent to the applicants accordingly.

it is a pay for hosting so I'm paying the minimum right now on what is suitable for the website. But once we get huge, I'm going to have to drop that service, and then look for something that can support a much smoother application approval process.

I really find it annoying with all the other guild sites out there that have public viewing forums where people post their information to be seen for applications, and others that have to manually respond to people via email regarding their petition, or have guild members sign up for the forums after they've already filled out an "application".

It all seems to be slowly merging together and I think you will be one of the first to get this implemented somehow. If you keep this a free deal you can still count on me donating for your support. You can do it and I can't wait to utilize this so i can switch our entire website over to the Dragonfly system.

Dragonfly Guild application form

Postby robojerk » Fri Nov 17, 2006 1:55 am

Don't know why I didn't add this earlier. If you use the DragonflyCMS module and want to include the forum name of your applicants on the applications do the following.

Open up apply.php, and look for
Code: Select all
$ffname Fix_Quotes($_POST['ffname']);

After it add
Code: Select all
if (is_user()) {

$userid $userinfo['user_id'];

$username $userinfo['username'];

Then look for the line
Code: Select all
$App "Name: $GamerName

After it add
Code: Select all
Forum Name$username

Now your applications will include the account name of your applicants so if accepted you can quickly grant them forum access.
