Extracting Professions

Postby pulsum » Sat Jul 08, 2006 2:11 am

Hello,

I'm trying to code myself (and maybe later for my guild) a little addon - getting all professions (especially from enchanters and tailors).
I tried to study the character-profiler code, but there's too much other code for all other functions, so i cannot excatly extract the professions section.

Now my question: Anyone can tell me how to get startet with my little addon project or can help me extracting the needed code from character profiler (GPL says that I can use it for own coding).

I read the wow-wiki to find the needed API functions, but i really don't know how to collect the professions and save them (confused by all the functions).
I know basics about coding addons for wow - toc and xml files etc.

Would be great to get some help or hints from professionals in here. ;-)

Are you sure it's not already in there? Look at the MadeBy button and the Professions button.

Well, didn't find the buttons you named (am I too blind?). But i searched for "professions" and only found a link to a roster. So, nothing seems to be in here what I'm looking for.

Yes, that's right. Only an addon that's extracting professions and saving the collected professions-infos. nothing more. :-)
I tried to do it by myself, but it doesn't work, 'cause I didn't get the API functions from wow-wiki working.

I don't know which API-function is needed to collect professions for enchanting and to collect for all other professions. I didn't get through the explainations wow-wiki is giving me on the site which function exactly I have to use. And about saving the collected infos, not even a single word is spoken there. All I can provide is the basic lua skeleton file.

Developement and coding is my daily job, but only in php, javascript and VB.
I never did LUA.

By "professions" do you mean "recipes"? It's my understanding that CharacterProfiler already does that, so you just need to extract the already-collected data from the MySQL tables that wowroster has created and present it as desired.
